Richard Lee
Managing Director

Richard's association with the Royal dates back to 1982, when he was here as a trainee for two years. He then joined Stocks & Stocks at Breakers Resort in Umhlanga Rocks & was later transferred to Kwa Maritane. He left Stocks & Stocks to join the management team with Sun International at The Cascades, Sun City. On returning to S.A. he joined Southern Sun hotels & was later promoted to General Manager of the Umhlanga Rocks Hotel. In 1990 he returned to the independent Royal Hotel in Ladysmith.
 
Adri Viljoen
Deputy General Manager
Adri began her career in the Hotel Industry at the Royal after being wooed to Ladysmith by her suitor. Adri started as Banqueting Co-Coordinator & soon was running the entire Banqueting Department as Banqueting Manager. In late 2008 she was promoted to Executive Housekeeper & with the departure of the Deputy General Manager in 2012, Adri was the natural choice for this position.
 
Anne Lee
Rooms Divison Manager
Anne began her Hotel career in 1979 at Sun City, Where she worked in Reception, Food and Beverage Control, Reservations and Housekeeping. She then moved to Kwa Maritane as Front Office Manager then on to Southern Sun Elangeni as Front Office Manager. Anne has been at the Royal Hotel since 1990 as Food and Beverage Controller, Staff Trainer and Rooms Division Manager.
 
Neeran Pandoy
Food and Beverage Manager
Neeran began his career in the hospitality trade, as a very young man, at the Royal as the Food & Beverage Purchaser. He later moved to Johannesburg where he continued in the hospitality industry. It wasn't too long before he was drawn back to Ladysmith & re-joined us as Assistant Food & Beverage Manager. Neeran left to persue a career in the Construction Industry; however soon returned to the Royal, this time as Banqueting Manager and was then promoted to Food and Beverage Manager.
 
Charles Lee
Financial Controller
Started his Articles with Golby Compten and Mckelvie, and then completed them with Reay Lee & Vernon Lee. He also worked in the Motor industry, Clothing industry & Church as an Accountant and Administrator. He then managed a Printing Company as well. In August 2018 He joined the Royal Hotel as their Financial Controller.
 
Ricky Taylor
Assistant Manager
Ricky started his career at the Royal Hotel in Ladysmith in 1999 as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager. He contributed to the opening of The Tipsy Trooper Restaurant. He managed it until 2004, when he returned to his hometown, Pietermaritzburg. Ricky returned to Ladysmith in 2014 and once again took the position of opening manager of Penelope's Coffee and Bistro situated at the Royal Hotel. Ricky presently works in the Food and Beverage department whilst still controlling the operations in Penelope's.
 
Harry Bihaspat
Maintenance Manager
Harry, the longest serving staff member at the Royal Hotel, has the never-ending task of making sure that everything, large and small, functions as it should throughout the Royal.
 
Andrew Sneeden
Head Chef
Andrew started at the Royal Hotel in 1996 as a Chef de Partie at Mario's Italian Restaurant, he also worked in Swainson's Restaurant as a Sous Chef. He furthered his career at the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line for 4 years. Andrew then returned to South Africa where he worked at the Protea Hotel in Hazyview. His adventures took him to Nigeria and Ghana as an Executive Chef working for Protea Hotel's International. Andrew then rejoined the Royal Hotel in Ladysmith as a Sous Chef and then soon took the position as Head Chef.
 
Justine Harding
Front Office Manager
Justine began her Hospitality career in 2012, Studying at the Fern Hill Hotel Training College for 2 years, where she completed her Hotel Management Diploma. She then left to work at the San Lameer Hotel as a Receptionist. She was drawn back to Ladysmith where she worked as the Assistant Front Office Manager for well over a year at the Royal Hotel. Justine then left to continue her Hospitality career in Limpopo, but soon returned to the Royal Hotel as the Front Office Manager in 2019.
 
Mimmi Mahlaba
Head Housekeeper
Mimmi started her career at the Green Lantern Inn based in Van Reenan in the Kitchen Scullery. She then progressed to Halfway House, where she worked in the Cold Kitchen. She arrived at the Royal Hotel in 1991, and started working as a Waitress, progressing to a Bar Lady, Switchboard Operator, Assistant Housekeeper and Mimmi was then promoted to Head Housekeeper.
